I have a picture on my desk that I clipped from a magazine a long time ago. I loved it so much I even framed it!
The picture is of an older woman sitting in her bed with tall elaborate gilded gold headboard. Her walls are painted with ocean murals and her furniture has no rhyme or reason. It’s as mish-mashed as you can get with a multitude of colors and patterns!
On the top of this picture is a slogan by an interior designer named Billy Baldwin and it reads, “Be faithful to your own taste because nothing you really like is ever out of style.” God I love these words!!
I have so many clients that put so much pressure on themselves by trying to label themselves with a style. Wives want to call it one thing and Husbands call it another and even though we haven’t put one thing together they are still arguing about it.
I am not a fan of labels – if you like it – isn’t that all that matters? Now for the hard part – putting it all together – making it work!! That’s my job as a designer. Suggesting, Adding and Filtering my clients likes, needs and wants to put all the pieces of the puzzle together to create harmonious surroundings.
